Think Before You React

Fergie’s rendition of the National Anthem was not good, not at all. She tried to do a jazz rendition and it didn’t work. I struggled listening to her performance.

I’ll admit it, I laughed. I’ve talked about how terrible it was. I even shared a few posts. Tonight, I started thinking....that’s not the right way to act. I wouldn’t want someone to treat my loved one that way.

We are adults. We teach our children that bullying is not okay, we talk about bullying being a ...problem for our kids. Well, folks....they get it from us.

You see, it’s easy to forget the human element when everything is online. It’s easy to forget that there is a woman with feelings, with a heart, someone’s wife, sister and daughter. A woman who is probably crawling in a hole right now. She is most likely embarrassed and afraid to look at the headlines. Remember, words hurt. Being embarrassed hurts.

I’m not debating if it was a total fail. She failed, miserably. Remember, we all fail. It wouldn’t be so easy to pick ourselves back up and dust off the failure if someone was there to make fun of you at every turn. Let’s make a conscious effort to remember that there’s a person with a soul. Their heart is breaking with every malicious comment we make.

If we want things to change, the shootings to stop, our kids to not be so consumed with what others think, then we have to set the example. Fill our world with love and positivity ... it starts with us.
